What all programs have in common is to teach parents how to use praise and positive reinforcement more effectively to encourage the behavior they want to encourage. And they teach their parents to get consistent results when their children do not obey. As a result, children learn to live up to their expectations and coordinate their behavior to enjoy more positive interactions with their parents

The program depends on how instruction is provided, how parents are expected to practice the skills they have learned, and the pace at which they are expected to acquire those new skills. The program consists of more than 10 sessions and is aimed at children of all ages. These programs include:

  • Parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT)
  • Parent Management Training (PMT)
  • Rebellious teenager
  • Positive Parenting Program (Triple P)
  • Behavioral and Emotional Ability Training (BEST)
It’s useful for parents to understand the differences between programs and choose what they think is best for their family. These treatments can be tailored to the child’s age, symptoms, and level of disability.

Below is an overview of these types of training, why they are different, and the families in which they are most suitable.

Parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT)

PCIT works with parents and children to give them the skills to interact in a positive and productive way. Suitable for children 2-7 years old, usually requires 14-17 sessions per week.

In PCIT, as parents and children perform a series of tasks, parents receive live coaching (through ear buds) from the therapist looking behind the magic mirror, and parents do what they want and don’t want. Practice a specific response to it.

PCIT is the most practical because it shows parents mastering each skill before moving on to the next skill. It begins with positive interactions, then waits for parents to acquire these skills before moving on to disciplined strategies to improve opposite behavior.

Rebellious teenager

The first half of this program is parent-only and focuses on teaching more effective tools for interacting with teens, especially to deal with non-compliance or rebellious behavior. However, because teens are more autonomous than young children and less susceptible to the guidance of their parents, this program trains teens to participate in changes in family dynamics. Positive Parenting Program (Triple P)

The focus of Triple P is to provide parents with the information and skills to build confidence and empowerment in managing their child’s behavior. It can be used by children of all ages, from infants to adolescents.

First, as a basis for parenting, there are four sessions of treatment that can be provided in the clinic with the participation of social workers and other mental health professionals in integrative medicine.

However, for families with more serious behavioral problems, there are 12 session treatments designed for both parents and children. With PMT, there are sessions where doctors meet face-to-face with their parents to discuss skills and strategies, and there are sessions where children can be involved and the therapist can coach. We call it the best of PCIT.

Behavioral and Emotional Ability Training (BEST)

Behavioral and Emotional Skills Training (BEST) is designed to showcase effective behavioral management techniques in a single session. Participants in the BEST Workshop will learn the basics of behavioral management and how to apply these skills consistently and effectively to build confidence in coping with challenging behaviors. We will also build a behavioral network of other caregivers to provide ongoing support after training is complete.
